Legacy Work
Legacy work refers to activities families and their loved ones can do alone or together. It is a way to review the life of a loved one and honour cherished memories with them. Some examples include:
Dignity Quilts
Family and friends are invited to pick a quilt for their loved one to have while at Carpenter Hospice. Family and friends can bring the quilt home when their loved one dies.
Quilts are made and donated by the Halton Quilters Guild.
Cherish Bears
Cherish Bears are offered to family, friends and/or residents. Residents are encouraged to hug the bear and gift it to family and friends. Residents also request bears as a source of comfort.
Word Cloud
Word Clouds are personalized representations made from meaningful words and special memories of a loved one that capture their life story and legacy.
Legacy Songs
Song-writing is a beautiful way for clients to express themselves, share messages with loved ones, and leave a tangible gift behind. These songs may be recorded, shared with families and friends, or performed at celebrations of life or memorial events.
Tree of Love
A Tree of Love captures individual fingerprints as leaves on the tree. Residents, families and friends are invited to add a fingerprint to the tree to represent their interconnectedness.
Painted Hands
Family, friends, and loved ones can create an art piece using each person’s handprint. Multiple handprints are layered over one another, creating a visual representation of their relationship.
Fingerprint Stones
Fingerprint stones are clay moulds of a loved one’s fingerprint. It makes a great token for a loved one’s legacy that can be carried with families and friends everywhere they go.
